Dahlia & James Marin, RDN, LD, CGN & RD, EN.

1. What's your practice focus and what kind of clients knock on your door ?

Dahlia Marin, RDN, LD, CGN and James Marin, RD, EN are the co-founders of the integrative dietetics practice Married to Health and the first 100% plant-based SIBO/IBS nutrition program. As gut health dietitians, Dahlia and James’ goal is to spread knowledge about the importance of incorporating plant-foods to support a healthy gut microbiome (#goodgut) and help those with gut issues get back to a thriving gut microbiome.

2. Tell us about yourself.

Since college, I knew I wanted to be a private practice owner. So during the pandemic, I needed to focus my energy and attention on something that was productive and brought me a sense of joy and fulfillment. I opened the doors of my virtual practice in September 2020 and became full-time in November 2023. It has been the most exciting and meaningful part of my career to offer therapy services to the broader community and be able to meet their needs in a flexible and accessible way!

3. Tell us the story of a patient who you are most proud of helping.

We're most proud of helping a patient who came to us tired of feeling tired, inflamed, in daily pain, obese, depressed- using cigarettes as an outlet for stress, & uninspired to live the life she found herself living. Once a vibrant & ambitious career woman who felt as great as she looked. Upon immigrating to the US for her family to pursue their passions, she began comfort eating and eventually spiraled. With a focus on whole food plant based eating, she was able to 'Heal With Each Meal'

4. What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a practitioner in private practice?

The hardest thing that comes with bring a practitioner in private practice is maintaining the operational side of things including: insurance billing, maintaining a corporation, payroll taxes, and the not-so-fun-stuff. Being strong healthcare providers came easy to us, learning the rest took patience, time, trust in others, and moving out of our comfort zone, but was so worth it.

5. What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a private practice today?\

These would be my pieces of advice:

  1. Know why you are getting into it to remind yourself of your Northern star on the long, hard days
  2. Seek out trustworthy mentors you can consult with when running into snags or new situations
  3. Find your niche! People want to feel confident they are in the right place, no one feels secure with a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none.

6. Where can people find you?
