1. What's your practice focus and what kind of clients knock on your door ?
My clientele predominantly consist of middle school and high school-aged girls. I use a solution-focused approach mainly with root-cause- analysis to actually dissect the issues and find ways my client can handle them. I want to make sure my clients know they matter and their problems matter. Few feelings are better than being genuinely heard and understood.
2. Tell us about yourself.
My journey into the realm of therapy and social work was profoundly influenced by my personal experience with my little brother who is autistic and has special needs. Growing up alongside him, I witnessed firsthand the unique challenges he faced and the impact it had on our family dynamics. I wanted to make sure I had opportunities to help others with similar struggles and becoming a therapist has done just that!
3. Tell us the story of a patient who you are most proud of helping.
I had a client who was struggling with a lot of self-doubt, anxiety, and body image concerns. She needed to work through some of these issues in a nonjudgemental, safe space. Throughout the sessions, I made sure this client was enabled to uncover her strengths, passions, and interests. Eventually, this client was able to engage in open conversation about her feelings, fears, and aspirations. Together, we developed strategies to manage her anxiety and confront the negative self-talk.
4. What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a practitioner in private practice?
One of the hardest things I have experienced is being able to compartmentalize work and private life. I hear a myriad of problems every day, and sometimes it can get you feeling a bit down or helpless. I have to remind myself that I am doing everything I can for my clients, and if I let myself burnout or don't implement proper boundaries, I won't be able to help future clients that need my services.
