1. What's your practice focus and what kind of clients knock on your door ?
I have worked with a range of individuals throughout my career but as of late I have really enjoyed working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, and alcohol use. I also really enjoy working with couples on navigating difficult communication.
2. Tell us about yourself.
I have been in the mental health field for over 7 years and have worked in many different healthcare settings. I found that I really enjoyed being able to provide more one-on-one support to clients as well as a more personalized approach to treatment. I felt that opening my own practice was another stepping stone in providing quality care to a range of individuals across MA & NH. I love having my own practice and being able to work closely with my clients on their therapeutic goals.
3. Tell us the story of a patient who you are most proud of helping.
I am proud to have supported many of my clients but one in particular stands out from a recent encounter with a client who struggled with social anxiety. We worked closely together on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and set small, yet feasible, goals each week to work on between sessions. This client worked hard on utilizing this framework and now they have been in the community more often & have been attending events and activities they otherwise wouldn't have before they started therapy.
4. What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a practitioner in private practice?
Working in the mental health field is not easy and can be very taxing at times. One of the hardest things about working in a private practice is making time for your own self-care and finding your network. It's so important to find a community of other providers that can support you when needed. Making time for your own self-care can be hard as well, so having that community to cheer you on is a must.
5. What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a private practice today?\
Top 3 tips I would give someone getting into private practice is:
- When starting a private practice it's important to establish boundaries early on when it comes to managing your schedule and creating a positive work-life balance.
- Additionally, have an idea of what your specialty will be as that will better help you market your practice.
- Lastly, have fun with it!
