1. What's your practice focus and who are your typical patients?
I love this question because my focus is upon my clients. I start with why you made the call, sent me the DM, email, text. I believe in starting with what you need the most help with now, and then broadening out into your family history and previous life experiences so that you will gain insight and understand your core patterns of relating. Often therapists lead with a long intake asking questions that don't pertain to your here and now. I think that's why some people report negative experiences in therapy. I intend for you to feel better and have some tools after one session with me.
2. Tell us about yourself.
I entered therapy as a client at age 21 and knew that I wanted to spend my life helping people to heal. I love what I do. I constantly reinvent myself and share with my clients how they can easily become happier and healthier. I offer my podcast, All Things Therapy entering its 7th year in 2023 with over 320 weekly episodes for you to use in your own life and share with loved ones. I offer you my book endorsed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, "The Chiron Effect: Healing Our Core Wounds through Astrology, Empathy, and Self-Forgiveness," which contains journal prompts and is a self-help personal transformation book that you can read or listen to as an audio book. My brand Nolatherapy is here to help you to help yourself and I am proud and happy to be doing this with my life.
3. Tell us the story of a patient who you are most proud of helping.
I work with the most amazing people. My clients come to me with issues causing them emotional pain which has become physical in some instances. I am so proud of the clients who are attracted to my practice because they are ready for a deep dive into interpersonal change, and a total transformation of their minds, hearts, and spirits. It takes trusting me as a stranger in initial sessions, and over time we develop a strong and trusting relationship where my clients feel heard, seen, valued, and in this space they change and fully heal. I keep strict confidentiality, therefore I refrain from sharing a specific individual. My clients are often in the entertainment, music, motion picture, medical, law, business, health, education, psychology, and service industry fields.
4. What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a practitioner in private practice?
It's paramount that you learn to prioritize your own emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual well-being and learn to set healthy boundaries. This balancing has taken me until now to master and as a result I am my most powerful and best self, giving from my overflow instead of giving when depleted. I love helping people master this personal art balancing business life and your interior and personal life.
5. What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a private practice today?\
When looking to start, run, and grow a private practice start small with a manageable handful of clients so that you can get the feel for running your own psychotherapy business and scale progressively so that you can deliver your best service. Secondly, in running a private practice, consistently engage in weekly self-care and personal development for yourself so that you stay in harmony and balance which will enable you to lead authentically and effectively. Lastly, know that it is normal to have ebbs and flows of business like the seasons and cycles and cycles of nature. Use the time with less direct client contact to pursue alternative professional goals which could include podcasting, blogging/writing, creating a side profession, and looking for new ways to share your skills.
