1. What's your practice focus and what kind of clients knock on your door ?

I work with individuals who are ready to make meaningful change in their lives. Either through counseling (work focused on looking at their past) or coaching (work focused on the future) - I help move from survival mode to thrive mode in their lives.
I specialize in helping clients resolve depression, anxiety and trauma. I also work effectively with relational counseling: marriage counseling, affair recovery and divorce recovery.

2. Tell us about yourself.

I have been a Clinical Social Worker for 23 years. I have had various work-settings: Wyandotte Center for Behavioral Healthcare as a Supervisor & Counselor; Preferred Family Health as the Regional Program Manager; & for the Marine Corp as the Director of Psychological Health.
I opened my Private Practice eleven years ago in Overland Park, Kansas. I work with individuals who are 13 year old through the golden years of life.
I am highly motivated to see people make meaningful change!

3. Tell us the story of a patient who you are most proud of helping.

One Client's journey that I recently help with was a 40 year old Professional male who was married with three teenage daughters. The client presented with alcohol abuse that had overtaken his life; but as we delved into the work and his life; we uncovered that overwhelming anxiety had plagued him most of his life and the alcohol was just an unhealthy coping mechanism. This Client did excellent work in his life...he got clean and sober & he slay anxiety in his life!

4. What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a practitioner in private practice?

In today's society, insurance does not serve any of us well. We pay more and get less. I made the difficult decision to not let my time and client's needs be determined by a broken system. I am totally private pay and am able to assure clients confidentiality because of this.

5. What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a private practice today?\

The top 3 tips I'd give to anyone looking to learn more about private practice is to

  1. Create a Business Plan that grows with you as you create your private practice.
  2. Don't have a poverty complex that causes you to not value your professional time. Set a fee and live with it.
  3. Set time aside weekly to grow in some aspect of your private practice.

6. Where can people find you?
