1. What's your practice focus and what kind of clients knock on your door ?
Anchoring Hope is a practice focused on developing self-awareness and then self-appreciation and growth. We have several therapists specializing in different areas over two locations who can provide counseling in person or via telehealth across Virginia. Clients choose us because they want an agency with a great reputation in the community, a personal and open atmosphere, and clinicians who are open-minded, non-judgmental, and caring.
2. Tell us about yourself.
I am Stephanie Strouth, LPC and owner at Anchoring Hope. I opened AHC during 2020 renting a single office in the back of another business. Since then, we’ve grown to 7 clinicians (and growing) over two locations in Virginia. As a trauma therapist, my motivation is seeing people take control of their mental health and find hope again after experiencing trauma. As a business owner, my motivation is offering clinicians a space with as much freedom as possible in a workplace they love to show up to.
3. Tell us the story of a patient who you are most proud of helping.
Collectively, my favorite times come especially when using EMDR therapy to help a person shift to a more positive belief about themselves when recalling trauma. To help someone who experienced abuse or assault move from a negative belief of “I should’ve done something differently” to “my body did what it needed to do to survive. Now it’s safe to thrive,” (believing it 100%) is monumental and so empowering. These shifts are life-changing and can impact the direction of your life!
4. What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a practitioner in private practice?
There are so many aspects that vary depending on the private practice setting and a person’s personality. One that many can likely relate to is managing finances because the majority of private practice pay is based on the number of sessions you actually have, meaning your pay will likely be a different number each paycheck. If you are good with money and can prepare well, it’s not an issue though.
