1. What's your practice focus and what kind of clients knock on your door ?
The focus of my practice is sexuality, sexual wellness, and trauma. Although I treat most mental health disorders, I specialize in these areas as there is a need due lack of professionals trained in these areas. Numerous individuals desiring to heal trauma, PTSD, and experiences via sexual assault usually seek out my services.
2. Tell us about yourself.
When I first started in the field, I worked with mothers addicted to opioids. I was an advocate for sexual assault victims/survivors. Doing this work strengthened my passion and understanding of my purpose to assist and support individuals with healing. Understanding and knowing the gifts that encourage people with growth and learning motivates me.
3. Tell us the story of a patient who you are most proud of helping.
I met a patient assigned to me. She suffered from multiple disorders but had not disclosed she experienced sexual assault. The patient trusted me via our rapport. As a trained clinician in EMDR, she consented she desired to work on healing the trauma. Upon us completing EMDR sessions, she began to lose weight. The doctors took her off some medications. The patient improved her mental and physical health status. That is rewarding to me.
4. What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a practitioner in private practice?
The most challenging thing that comes with private practice are the business aspects. Market, promote, engaging, and networking with others are necessary in establishing a private practice. It is an opportunity to grow your practice. The business of promoting self and business increases visibility so that people will know you have services you are providing.
