1. What's your practice focus and what kind of clients knock on your door ?
My practice has grown many legs over the years. I started out offering individual and family therapy in the office. Over the years I began receiving requests to facilitate workshops and webinars for corporations. Currently I have 5 therapists in my practice so it's no longer just me. Each member of my team specializes in working with different populations. I personally work mostly with couples, busy professionals struggling with work-life balance, and corporate wellness.
2. Tell us about yourself.
I'm motivated by seeing clients achieve treatment goals, and witnessing a drastic increase in people becoming self-aware and recognizing that therapy is both effective and available to them. Motivation also comes from working in a field in which there are countless opportunities for growth, further training and education, and various career options. I am a Chapter President for the Illinois Counseling Association, a member of their Executive Committee, and a co-host on the ICA's Podcast.
3. Tell us the story of a patient who you are most proud of helping.
I'm most proud of helping a Reality TV personality/cast member at the height of their career struggling with anxiety, work-related stress, self-doubt, negative thoughts, and a very loud and negative inner critic. Most often people believe that seeking a therapist is only necessary when you're experiencing the lows or valley's of life. Seeking help or additional support when you're in the midst of a "mountain top" experience or your most successful moments in life can be equally important.
4. What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a practitioner in private practice?
Working with various insurance companies. Insurance companies have various requirements and the specifics of contracts differ from one company to another. Many of them try to avoid reimbursing you at your regular rates. This can result in clinicians avoiding insurance companies and make it more challenging for clients to find providers that will accept their insurance.
5. What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a private practice today?\
