1. What's your practice focus and what kind of clients knock on your door ?
I work with diverse population groups, valuing how client-clinician dynamics influence diagnoses beyond symptoms. I serve many college students, medical patients in the Boston area. With expertise in Health Psychology, Behavioral Medicine, and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, I highlight relational patterns and meaning-making. I focus on comprehending clients' narratives through attachment and interpersonal cues.
2. Tell us about yourself.
With extensive experience in Italy and the US, I bring a cross-cultural perspective to my clinical work. Formerly, I worked in a hospital and academia in Italy, blending clinical and research roles. These shape my current practice, sustained by ongoing collaborations and peer supervision with Italian colleagues through videoconferencing. Private practice affords me the freedom to continue learning and promoting clinical literature in psychology.
3. Tell us the story of a patient who you are most proud of helping.
I'm proud of my profession for enabling transformative experiences in patients' lives. Working together, individuals shift perspectives on their concerns, transcending narratives to emerge integrated, self-aware, and autonomous. A patient once said: “I now know I have more choices in my relationships, I'm not obligated to the same choice anymore".
4. What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a practitioner in private practice?
A mentor once stated that psychotherapy is the most challenging profession of all due to its lack of fixed techniques for determining the "next steps". Grappling with uncertainty and the distinctiveness of each patient is not only demanding but also compelling. Active listening demands skillfully managing data, including our emotions and tentative meaning-making from the patient's narrative. This often means resisting the urge for certainty in hypotheses about the patient's underlying request.
