1. What's your practice focus and who are your typical patients?
My practice is focused on relationships and repairing relationships, including couples work, family relationships and relationship with self. Typical clients include individuals working on trauma, relational issues, and partners seeking relationship/ couples counseling. I am trained and certified in Brainspotting, which I used often with my clients and see great healing from this modality.
2. Tell us about yourself.
I love being a therapist. I have always wanted to support and guide people to finding solutions to relational issues. Since getting my masters degree, I have found brainspotting therapy, which has completely changed my practice and I now view myself as not only a therapist but a healer. Seeing the benefit I can provide to people and their relationship keeps me coming back every day to do this work.
3. Tell us the story of a patient who you are most proud of helping.
I work with a lot of clients who have significant attachment trauma from their childhood. Any time I work with a client who was unable to connect to others, enjoy meaningful relationships or share intimacy and over the course of work together is then able to achieve these things not only makes me feel proud of the work I do, but brings me great joy for them, that they are able to enjoy the life they deserve.
4. What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a practitioner in private practice?
Not being paid for the time you take off/ having to work more before taking time off and the isolation that can come with it. It's important to have a support network you can lean on when things are challenging emotionally or from a business perspective.
5. What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a private practice today?\
1. Find a niche that you WANT to work with and get specific training in that area.
2. Network and become friendly with other providers. People refer to you when they know you and enjoy you, and it's nice to have folks to consult with.
3. If you don't have experience with administrative work, take a training or get some tips from someone who does. Being able to manage a calendar, respond to emails promptly and just generally organize your business helps A LOT.
