1. What's your practice focus and what kind of clients knock on your door ?

I work with couples in Preconception, Pregnancy, or with young children or adolescents. Many have experienced cancer in themselves or their families and want to reduce risk. I help them to envision what they would love and to see that their genes are not their destiny. In fact, healthy lifestyles can help heal and influence our health in positive ways. I individualize and support couples to practice mindful life habits so they can do more of what they love and spend less time being sick.

2. Tell us about yourself.

I spent over 40 years working in acute care oncology in Medical, Surgical and Rehab settings administering chemotherapy, bone marrow transplant, symptom management and end-of-life care.  While I saw cures, miracles, and remissions, I also saw considerable chronic illness and suffering. When I realized 30-50% of these cancers are preventable, especially when we start in Critical Periods of Growth and Development, my passion was ignited and Wellness Parenting was born! I LOVE this work.

3. Tell us the story of a patient who you are most proud of helping.

Several years ago, I admitted a patient newly diagnosed with lymphoma. During my admitting assessment, I invited her to think of any environmental chemicals that may be impacting her health. She reported using a pesticide. I encouraged her to stop use to protect her health as well as focus on healthful lifestyle practices. She did while undergoing her 6 chemo treatments. Five years later, she was told she can consider herself cured. It made my day and confirmed the power of prevention!

4. What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a practitioner in private practice?

Recognizing that we can only help those who are willing to be helped. As someone who is passionate about prevention and reducing suffering, I have learned about various strategies that make a difference in healing. Many will use a few strategies to feel better and be healthier. Some will not, even if it means they are likely to get sick. I must honor each patient's decisions while never giving up hope. I let go and focus on those who are motivated.

5. What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a private practice today?\

The top three tips I would give.

  1. Find your passion and visualize what you would love if nothing was holding you back.
  2. Network with those who have gone before you and are successful; through word of mouth, seek a website designer with automation ability.
  3. Know that it will probably take longer than you think but believe in yourself and never give up on your dream!

6. Where can people find you?
