1. What's your practice focus and what kind of clients knock on your door ?
I specialize in functional and naturopathic approaches to determine the root cause of illness with food and nutrition as the core modality. I use a client-centered approach that addresses the whole person which is more personalized, more precise and more strategic. Disease goes away as a side effect of creating health and food is the most powerful medicine. All are welcome!
2. Tell us about yourself.
My interest in nutrition grew from family dynamics. My mother is a fabulous cook. My father had diabetes. My grandfather was a farmer that emigrated from the Azores. I grew up on farm fresh food, deliciously prepared every day by my mother. Many-a-conversations about life but also diet/health started at the kitchen table. I enjoy helping people develop positive relationships with food and natural health modalities for themselves and their family members.
3. Tell us the story of a patient who you are most proud of helping.
I helped an obese women with fatigue, IBS, indigestion, bloat, constipation, anxiety, vertigo, skin rashes and allergies, who was told by her providers there was nothing medically wrong with her, fully eradicate all of her issues. What is so satisfying about my work are the intrinsic rewards I get from helping people improve their daily lives and helping them see it is actually within their capacity to do so.
4. What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a practitioner in private practice?
There are limits to the number of clients I can help as a sole proprietor, despite diversified offerings (individual vs group sessions) and factoring in the necessary work-life balance. Working in heath care requires good self-care. This allows me the ability to offer my best self in the service of others but it requires discipline and time. Navigating a path to that balance is a challenge in private practice but possible and do-able.
5. What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a private practice today?\
The top three tips I would give.
